On this episode we speak to a Brit Abroad, Alison Smith, who lives and works in Perth Australia, she is a health and fitness coach and owns Sunshine Health and Fitness, where she offers a range of coaching for personal training and multisport.
Alison growing up as a kid, states was not a sporty child really- hated running, only swam breaststroke and used a bike to hang around with friends .
She started going to the gym after uni and got bored after a while & decided she needed to put the newly gained fitness to a purpose.
Alison played at triathlon for a few years- from about age 27-34. Mostly pool swim events and very low key.
She then rowed competitively between 2003-2006, mostly in Coxless 4s, winning gold medals ant women’s Henley and the national championships in 2005 and silver in 2006. After that her crew decided to get married, have children and get a life, and she had a new man in her life who was keen on triathlons, so she got back into it.
She confesses that her first open water swim race was at Blenheim in 2007 and she did breastroke the whole way - hated it!!
