In Jim Collins latest book, How the Mighty Fall and Why Some Companies Never Give In, he describes the 4 stages of why companies fail. In today’s podcast, Bob’nJoyce rift on the markers (signs of trouble ahead) that Collins suggests leaders look for in their organizations. As OD and HR practitioners, we can use Collins’ insights to assess the general health of our organization’s culture. We feel that this is the most important task we do in HR/OD.

Some of the markers include:

  • Organizational complacency
  • Fixation on past wins and successes
  • Rationalizing the decline on external factors
  • Bringing in a new leader as savior
