Your most immediate need is to recover enough so that you can make the next best step! Which is why I’m leaving you this season with some tangible takeaways that you can use to create space in your life. If you find yourself in that deep dark hole of burnout, then listen in!

First things first, you need to know that the word “No” is a complete sentence. If you cannot take on one more shift or one more project, then tell your boss no. Not in a cranky toddler kind of way, but in a real and self-preserving way.

In fact, once you’ve said no, give them an acceptable alternative. Listen in to hear a few examples, but don’t just say no and walk away. Give them other options for their request, they’ll appreciate it and you will be establishing new boundaries.

Another seriously important part of this is learning how to express your needs at work. Then asking more questions to clarify the situation. If you can’t express your needs and ask the right questions to dig deeper into uncomfortable situations, then it’s time to do some work.

Burnout often stems from having blown out all of your boundaries. It’s time to re-establish them. If your attempts at communication aren’t well received, then it may be time to start firing off your warning shots.

Listen in to hear all the goodness and then shoot me an email. What would you like to see in the next season of Burntout to Badass?

Most of us are traditionally employed, highly intelligent, highly motivated, and we’re highly compensated, but we are hitting the wall.” Dr. Errin Weismann
