Foster Genuine Connections
It’s not just a numbers game! Successful Networkers know that it’s a base of quality over quantity connections that really drive the results. Cys Bronner, ActionsSteps4Success Founder and BNI Executive Director invites you to be a part of our “50 Action Steps Towards Networking Success” with another simple yet powerful Action Step. Step #12: Foster Genuine Connections

Hello and welcome, I’m Cys Bronner, the Constant Social Media Networker and ActionSteps4Success Founder.

Numbers are important. I’m not here to tell you that you should omit looking at them. Without that snapshot, you have no idea if you are on the right track. But, in the fast-paced world of networking, it's easy to get caught up in the numbers game, collecting business cards and LinkedIn connections like trophies.

I do believe (and the numbers support it) that the true power of networking lies in the depth and authenticity of your connections, and the knowledge that creating a positive experience is not just about what you can get from others but also about what you can give.

When it comes to fostering genuine connections, a personal touch goes a long way.

If you really want to connect in that way, you’ll want to take the time to understand the people in your network on a deeper level. Listen actively during conversations, ask about their interests, and remember the details.

One thing I’ve learned, it doesn’t matter if you are in a structured networking group like BNI or elsewhere, it’s that networking isn't just about business: it's about building relationships.

One way to deepen your connections is by recommending resources that align with their interests or challenges. It could be a post, a podcast, or a book.

Speaking of books - and I often do - I’d like to recommend one that delves into the art of building meaningful connections, "Never Eat Alone" by Keith Ferrazzi. https://amzn.to/3TIhgMH Ferrazzi uses his remarkable ability to connect with others to pave the way and provides practical advice on networking, emphasizing the importance of authenticity.

Assignment: Your assignment today, is to identify a contact in your network whom you'd like to strengthen your relationship with.

Take a few minutes to research their interests or current challenges. Once you have a better understanding, recommend a resource that you genuinely believe will add value to their professional or personal life.

Send a personalized message explaining why you think they would find the resource beneficial. Remember, the key is to show genuine interest and provide something of value without expecting anything in return.

Don't forget to share your experience or the response you receive on our Constant Social Media Networker site. Share the importance of building connections beyond the surface level and how it positively impacts your networking journey.

Building authentic connections is an ongoing process, so keep nurturing these relationships over time, and you'll see the positive impact on your network and referrals.

Happy Networking!
