Struggle with anger?

On this episode of Created To Thrive Podcast, we dive into the topic of mastering your emotions, specifically understanding and processing anger for better emotional health.

As believers, we often focus too much on the direction of our actions, but processing anger involves inviting God into the distress and potentially addressing the underlying issues with someone or making necessary changes.

Lisa Pinney of Wholeness In Practice shares her personal experience of expressing anger in unhealthy ways and believes that as Christians, we are often ignorant about how to process anger in a healthy way.

Throughout the episode, we explore various aspects of anger, including the four types of anger and the lack of a middle ground in the modern Christian vernacular between forgiveness and letting go.

We also discuss the harmful effects of using scripture out of context, such as weaponized scripture that can harm children or create false beliefs about divorce. We emphasize the importance of true listening, considering what Jesus would do, and finding safe spaces to process our experiences without judgment. We also touch on the challenges and guilt that come with caregiving, the prevalence of caregiving due to an aging population, and the need for self-awareness without self-judgment.

Additionally, we explore the biblical perspective on anger, drawing examples from God's expressions of anger and the importance of recognizing and processing our own anger.

Four types of anger: Destructive, constructive, righteous, and justified anger are discussed, and we learn how bringing our anger to God and seeking His guidance can help us find hope and healing. The episode also delves into the concept of forgiveness, the gift we give ourselves to release injustice and start the healing process. The goal is to establish a deeper connection with the Lord and find restoration for our souls.

We explore the idea that anger is often misunderstood and considered a secondary emotion, urging listeners to explore the underlying emotions such as fear, shame, regret, and insecurity.

Our next episode will continue the exploration of anger by delving into understanding the root causes and addressing them. We acknowledge that forgiveness does not always help with anger and emphasize the importance of processing anger with God and the person who caused it.

We also discuss the concept of righteous anger, citing Jesus' display of anger in the temple courts and examining current societal issues that evoke conflicting feelings of anger.

Join us on this thought-provoking journey as we seek to understand and master our emotions, particularly anger, for our better emotional health. Stay tuned for the next episode where we continue our exploration of anger and delve into understanding the root causes.
