In part two of this two-part podcast, Rabbi Rami talks with Rev. Dr. Joan Brown Campbell and Karen Armstrong on location at the 27th Annual Festival of Faiths in Louisville, KY this past April. Karen Armstrong is the author of numerous other books on religious affairs-including A History of God, The Battle for God, Holy War, Islam, Buddha, and The Great Transformation-and two memoirs, Through the Narrow Gate and The Spiral Staircase. Her work has been translated into forty-five languages. She has addressed members of the U.S. Congress on three occasions; lectured to policy makers at the U.S. State Department; participated in the World Economic Forum in New York, Jordan, and Davos; addressed the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington and New York; is increasingly invited to speak in Muslim countries; and is now an ambassador for the UN Alliance of Civilizations. She was awarded the TED Prize in 2008. Rev. Dr. Joan Brown Campbell is chair of the Board of Trustees and the Global Compassion Council. She is an ordained minister and a devoted activist for peace and social justice. This commitment was crafted during her life changing work with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and was deepened in the struggle to end apartheid in South Africa. She served as an honorary election monitor with President Kaunda of Zambia in the election of Nelson Mandela as the first African president of South Africa. Archbishop Desmond Tutu referred to her as “a woman of courage and compassion." She is the author of Living Into Hope: A Call to Spiritual Action for Such a Time as This, and Prayers From Chautauqua.
