WHY FAT RUNNERS NEED TO STOP DIETING

MIA BRAITHWAITE | @THE_FAT_ATHLETE

Plus Size Running Coach, Mia Braithwaite, brings the heat as she challenges common myths around being a fat runner, plus size athlete, running for weight loss (hint: it's not gonna work), joyful movement, anti-fat bias in medicine, what a runner's body looks like and how to get started running in a fat body. Whew!
Mia Says...

"Weight cycling causes harm to your body and to your fitness goals. You cannot maintain a caloric deficit and be able to do distance running."

Mia is here to change our perception of fat runners and all plus-size athletes in general. She's calling out the misconception that runners are skinny or that the goal of runners in bigger bodies should be weight loss. In fact, we both get heated in this podcast as we yell from the rooftops how unhealthy yo-yo dieting (weight cycling) is, especially if you're trying to achieve a calorie deficit at the same time as you're trying to improve your fitness. In this episode, we talk about,

  • What it means to move for joy (not weight loss)
  • What it looks like to perform thinness and fitness in order to be considered a 'good fatty"
  • Why you can't be a distance runner and starve your body of the fuel it needs at the same time
  • How to get started with joyful movement (hint: it starts with listening to your body!)

All Resources We Talked About
