Conversation #28: Flipped Table Theology (NOT) Live: the theology of protest
Manage episode 380426287 series 3459715
Backstory: The FTT team was scheduled to be at an event today to film the podcast live as one of the presenters. Our team showed up to the event early (everyone except for Shurita who was at an all day work retreat) in order to watch the first speaker. The entire event was supposed to be centered around the topic of deconstruction, but this first speaker shared from a very toxic, authoritative place that created a very unsafe, triggering environment. We listened for awhile before we collectively chose to leave.
We coordinated with the event hosts who were equally disappointed as this speaker was invited to share last minute by the event leader due to a schedule change.
We backed out of the event and left to record an impromptu FTT podcast on the theology of protest.
This podcast may have triggers as we talk about evangelical spaces and leaders who abuse power and authority on the platform.
We hope this incredibly raw podcast that came as a response to our own triggered and activated experience today will be affirming for those who are wrestling with staying in toxic spaces, and affirming for those who have chosen to leave as a form of protest.
We hope you are able to find a safe, supportive community in your deconstructing because "no one deserves to deconstruct alone" as we mentioned during week 17. Our Flipped Table Theology Facebook group may be a starting place for you and we encourage anyone who is deconstructing or processing religious trauma to join.
