Love God, love people, and change the world. We believe the life and lessons of Jesus aren’t just good advice, but are Good News for us here and now. As a church, we are all about following Jesus and know there’s no end to that journey—we’re more about becoming than arriving. We are committed to becoming a multi-generational, multi-ethnic, multiplying movement of Christ followers, equipping and empowering our kids and students to not only be the church of tomorrow, but the church of today.
Heritage Baptist Church exists by the grace of God and for the glory of God, which is the ultimate purpose of all our activities. We seek to glorify the God of Scripture by promoting His worship, edifying and equipping the saints, evangelizing the nations, planting and strengthening churches, calling other assemblies to biblical faithfulness and purity, encouraging biblical fellowship among believers and ministering to the needy, thus proclaiming and defending God’s perfect law and glorious ...
Episode Description: Jessica B. Harris may have been born and raised in New York City, but she has Tennessee roots through her father and has spent much of her life split between homes in the Northeast and the South – specifically New Orleans. For more than fifty years, she has been a college professor, a writer, and a lecturer, and her many books have earned her a reputation as an authority on food of the African Diaspora, as well as a lifetime achievement award from the James Beard Foundation. A few years back, Netflix adapted her book, High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America , into a 4 part docuseries. And I’m very proud to say that she’s a longtime contributor to Southern Living with a regular column called The Welcome Table. This episode was recorded in the Southern Living Birmingham studios, and Sid and Jessica talked about her mother’s signature mac and cheese, the cast-iron skillet she’d be sure to save if ever her house were on fire, and her dear friend, the late New Orleans chef Leah Chase. We were back after a four-month break! Amy joined me as my permanent co-host for what we hoped would be a new format. However, we never recorded it again. Too much life and illness getting in the way. Join us one last time as we draw for several prizes and talk about upcoming goodies in the shop!
Illness has kept me from recording regularly, but I hope to rectify that soon. However, life is getting busy, so I won’t have as much editing in my episodes (no cool Rav displays.) Sorry. The red is from allergies, not drinking, though I definitely think the drinking would be more fun! I am SO unorganized this week, but I have two FO’s and a bittersweet new WIP to show you. I will have better notes, and the cool Ravelry pages in the episode thing, again next time. I am going to discontinue the fitness segment until mid-June. I watched the documentary “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead” with Joe Cross at the recommendation of ploverbird and I found it incredibly inspiring. However, the whole idea of a 60-day juice fast is also very controversial (I am not doing a 60-day fast, just saying!) so I don’t think that what Joe has to say is for everyone. I am going to be trying some of his ideas and I will be documenting my progress on this journey to share with you all at the end. I just don’t want it to be mixed in with the podcast.…
