Welcome to the 58th episode of Gogopoda! Are you ready to listen to a nearly 40 minute monologue on MMA? Probably not, but I was lazy and didn’t feel like splitting the episode into two parts.

GREG HARDY: HEAVYWEIGHT PROSPECT?!
According to this article written by Ariel Helwani, former NFL defensive end Greg Hardy is making the transition to mixed martial arts. I am immediately not excited about the prospect of yet another sh*t head running around MMA. We’ve already got enough of those, especially with the recent antics of Alex Nicholson, his training partner Mike Perry, and Michael Graves. It’d be probably be best if Hardy never steps foot into a cage. Hell, it’s probably not a good idea teaching Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu to someone as unstable as he is. But, this is MMA. As long as Hardy pays for training and has a name, there will be a promotion willing to get him into a cage. The scariest part is that Hardy, who is only 28, has the athleticism to transition very well to heavyweight MMA.

UFC 204
I have to say that UFC 204 was a very fun card overall. There were only two decisions and plenty of violence to be had (even if that means afforementioned sh*t head Mike Perry got a highlight reel KO victory). Mirsad Bektic showed that ring rust wasn’t a factor and secured a first round submission win over Russell Doane. Stefan Struve fought a smart fight. I was proud, even if I had his opponent on my DraftKings team. Jimi Manuwa finally brought the violence that was expected of him when he first signed with the UFC and absolutely destroyed OSP. Gegard Mousasi absolutely dismantled Vitor Belfort. It was a good night all around and the main event did not disappoint.

FIGHTS SHOULD BE JUDGED ON WHO NEEDS MORE RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY
Dan Henderson made his final walk to the Octagon on Saturday night and he did not go gentle into that good night. He nearly recreated his highlight reel KO of middleweight champion Michael Bisping late in the first round and destroyed his left eye. The scoring of that first round has led to some contention in the MMA space as many pundits believed that first round should’ve been scored 10-8 Henderson. If that’s the case, the last fight of the legendary Hendo could’ve ended in…a draw?! What a time to be alive…
