At UFC 204, Michael Bisping made his first successful title defense against now retired (and inexplicably still ranked) Dan Henderson. The fight definitely was not without its fair share of drama as the Brit was rocked by two big right hands in the first two rounds of the fight. Bisping, however, stuck to his gameplan of volume striking to outwork the 46 year old legend. The question became, “what’s next for Bisping?” The top four contenders for his title were all tied up in something that was half-tournament, half-contingency plan (break in case of Dan Henderson’s unlikely victory).

Former champion Chris Weidman and Yoel Romero are set to fight this Saturday at UFC 205 in a fight that’s sure to bring some serious violence to the table. Former champion and part-time model Luke Rockhold was set to rematch Jacare Souza. They fought in 2011 in a Strikeforce fight that saw Rockhold, a long haired prospect who hadn’t fought in almost two years, upset the middleweight champion Souza via decision. However, fate (or AKA’s penchant for catastrophic knee injuries) said otherwise for Rockhold. He was forced from the rematch with a knee injury and Souza was pulled from the card all together (a Derek Brunson/Robert Whittaker fight is now the main event). Souza immediately used his new found freedom to call out Michael Bisping via this terrifying video. The rivalry between the two middleweights seems to be heating up because Souza’s manager claimed that Dominick Cruz would beat Michael Bisping. Damn, that’s cold.

But, I digress. Bisping recently campaigned for a fight with Georges St. Pierre at UFC 206. GSP wanted the fight with Bisping (Bisping’s not exactly had kind words about the welterweight GOAT) but it fell through the cracks as GSP has some things that he needs to work out with UFC, or vice versa. Bisping suddenly claimed that he could not fight Jacare at the event due to injuries he sustained at UFC 204. Injuries, money, it’s all the same, right? Jacare vs. Bisping seems to be the most likely fight to make, with the winner of Weidman/Romero getting the next shot. Very curious to see how the middleweight title picture will play out over the next 12 months. Here’s your UFC middleweight top 15:

Luke Rockhold
Chris Weidman

Jacare Souza
Yoel Romero
Gegard Mousasi
Anderson Silva
Robert Whittaker
Derek Brunson
Vitor Belfort
Uriah Hall
Thales Leites
Tim Kennedy
Dan Henderson
Rafael Natal
Krzysztof Jotko
