If you are someone who is considering your first couch to 5km run or you have been training regularly for yearsm todays guest will be of interest to you. I talk with exercise physiologist Dr Stephen Seiler who has spent years studying the worlds best athletes, so that we can gain more knowledge about how the human body responds when we exercise and what we can do in order to achieve peak performance. We talk about what physical fitness means and why it means different things to different people at different stages of life. We hear the reasons why younger people enjoy an innate level of fitness in comparison with older people and when I say older people I mean people as young as 35. Dr Seiler tackles that old saying. 'No pain no gain', we find out if its actually true. We talk about how women who exercise must also contend with the complexities of their mentrual cycle. Expect to learn whether incorporating High intensity interval training into your fitness regime is a good idea or not. We ask what VO2 max, heart rate variability and lactate threshold are and whether using a sports watch to measure heart rate are advised. Plus we hear about the different zones of training and how knowledge of these zones even if you are only a casual exerciser is very valuable to achieving your fitness goals. https://science-cycling.org/stephen-seiler/ https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Stephen-Seiler https://www.youtube.com/@sportscientist Order Happy Habits for Mind and Body Audiobook: https://rb.gy/h5jjjg Order Kindle copy of Happy Habits for Mind and Body : https://rb.gy/jiojcc Order US paperback of Happy Habits for Mind and Body : https://rb.gy/sirste Order UK paperback of Happy Habits for Mind and Body : https://rb.gy/jtfea5 Listen to all previous podcast episodes of the Happy Habit Podcast via these podcast platforms : Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/happy-habit-podcast Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Happy-Habit-Podcast/dp/B08K5887J8 Amazon music : https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/670836c2-ea4c-4a23-a67d-a54dd804ef61/happy-habit-podcast Spotify https://https://open.spotify.com/show/2VKIhQK6mYTzLCO8haUoRd Google Podcasts : https://t.ly/hTU8q ----- Follow the Happy Habit Podcast at: Website: https://happyhabitpodcast.wordpress.com/Facebook: Twitter: https://twitter.com/mathieunorry Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/happyhabitpodcast/ Newsletter:
