Sometimes you never know that you need a movie until it up and smacks you in the face....
On this special episode we dive into some heartfelt, self-depricating Can-Con hilarity that is an early contender for one of the best Canadian films of the year. It's time for 'Hey, Viktor!'
Twenty years removed from childhood fame as Little Viktor in 1998’s 'Smoke Signals', Cody Lightning has been forced to move home to his reserve in northern Alberta.
He still believes himself to be famous; even though the only parts he gets these days are porn & fracking commercials.
But when Cody learns his wife and kids are leaving him for a younger, more successful actor, he decides it’s time to quit fucking around and make his masterpiece; writing, directing, & starring in 'Smoke Signals 2: Still Smoking'
.
A documentary crew follows Cody on his journey around the Indigenous world— re-uniting the original cast, borrowing money from arms dealers, & realizing his vision... just in time to realize his vision was basically shit.
If there's a Canadian 'This Is Spinal Tap' this is pretty much it as Cody tackles the the multi-headed hydra of writing, directing, producing and starring in his own feature....and he makes it look effortless while being hilarious.
In advance of the film's release tomorrow we had the chance to sit own and talk with Cody about the origins of the film, the comedy of it all and so very much more....
