Michael Ende’s famous novel explores the nature of storytelling and the value of reading books all while wrapped up in a meta-exploration of a surrealist fantasy adventure written for children. This book goes way beyond where Wolfgang Peterson’s iconic adaptation, exploring what it means to literally lose yourself in a story.
