Charlie Kaufman’s dreamlike adaptation of Iain Reid’s psychological horror novel makes for intriguing viewing, using the language of cinema to introduce a critique of our obsession with both entertainment and outside validation into a story already brimming with existential despair. In episode 153, Luke & James do their best to interpret this impressionist work of art.

SPOILERS BEGIN: 16:07

Topics: Jesse Plemons as Jake, Jessie Buckley as the ideal, Toni Collette & David Thewlis stealing scenes, dream-logic, mysteriously motivated cameras, the meaning of the movie within the movie, a fundamental change in the janitor’s character, whether or not it is true that young is better, and finally they each vote on which was better: the book or the movie!
