Today we’re getting into the nitty gritty of emotional ownership. Who is responsible for how we feel? And how can we better manage our emotions? I begin with distinguishing between empaths, and the result of being socialised as a woman – which is heightened empathy. I discuss how we can be empathetic to a fault, leading to emotional co-dependency. I illustrate how many of us feel it is our responsibility to make sure everyone is comfortable, and how this can be a trauma response. I then introduce you to the idea of emotional childhood vs. emotional adulthood, and discuss how to transition from the former to the latter, using an anecdote of my marriage to illustrate the same.
