Minute One Hundred Two: From Everything on Loki to The Mark VII Attaching to TonyFilm Critic Ewan Graf from the Quiet on Set podcast joins us in this episode!
In the one-hundred-second minute of The Avengers...Tony’s finishing his response to Loki, and this is where he gets close to calling out the name of the film again in this scene. It plays, but it might be too clever by half. The real issue comes immediately afterward when Loki decides to try his mind control scepter tap on Tony’s chest, only to hit the arc reactor. While this is a funny gag, and certainly in the director’s style, it does lead to a question we have about what they’re trying to do with Loki by this point in the film. As the antagonist, it certainly seems like they’re diminishing him so they can build up the Chitauri army. Is that fair to him? Perhaps that’s why the end of this film feels a bit like it’s got an antagonist problem. Still, it is a funny line.
From there, we get to talk about Stark tech and how it perpetually seems to be ready at the very last possible second. First, why isn’t Tony more injured by the two times Loki tosses him? And how does Loki feel after that Mark VII blow to the face? This begins our conversation about the Mark VII, the way it emerges, and the start of it attaching itself to Tony. It’s pretty cool. Tune in!
