Possible Reasons Why Women are at Greater risk of developing Alzheimer's. While it's true that women are more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease than men Several factors may contribute to the higher prevalence of Alzheimer's disease in women Women, on average, tend to live longer than men. Since age is a significant risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, the longer lifespan of women contributes to a higher overall prevalence of the condition. Some studies suggest that hormonal changes, particularly those associated with menopause, may play a role in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Estrogen, a hormone that decreases significantly during menopause, has been studied for its potential neuroprotective effects The APOE ε4 allele, a known genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, may have a stronger impact in women than in men Women who carry the APOE ε4 allele may have a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease compared to men with the same genetic variant Conditions that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol, may also contribute to the risk of Alzheimer's disease Sex differences in immune function could contribute to the gender disparity in Alzheimer's risk There is evidence to suggest that the immune system and inflammatory responses may be involved in the development of Alzheimer's disease Did you know that 23and Me will test for APOE4 Gene? Perhaps you should take the test and find out if you are at risk for Alzheimer's
