Body positivity has been getting a lot of flak lately. Critics say that body positivity is shaming people who want to lose weight. They argue that by supporting body positivity, people have made those trying to “better themselves” through weight loss feel uncomfortable and ashamed.

This begs the question: Can you support body positivity and want to lose weight at the same time? Is it okay to want to lose weight at all?

There’s one crucial piece of information these criticisms are missing: That losing weight doesn’t always make you healthier, no matter your body size. In this episode, we look at these criticisms of the movement through a different lens that doesn’t view weight loss as a necessary thing at all.

Question: My coworkers are CONSTANTLY talking about going paleo, doing the whole30, etc. after Christmas season. How do you combat that talk?!
