What is life REALLY like in the NBA?

What are the pros and cons of being in that space?

And if you ever leave, what’s it like transitioning into the private training space?

If you’ve ever wondered about any of these questions, today’s guest is uniquely qualified to answer all of them!

Mike Irr is the owner of Alpha Athletic Development, a private training facility in Atlanta.

But prior to his time there, he also spent over a decade in the league – with stops in Chicago, Charlotte, Golden State, and Atlanta.

Oh – and don’t forget that short stint as a PT student at IFAST as well!

So in today’s episode, we’re not only going to look at what like if like in the NBA, but how to be successful both there and in the private sector!

If you’re a guard I want you to be strong, but I also need you to get by somebody on the court.

– Mike Irr

This Week on the Physical Prep Podcast:

  • A little bit about Mike and how he got started in the world of physical preparation.
  • His career arc and all the stops he had along the way – from UCONN, to the NBA, to IFAST, and then back to the NBA.
  • What life is really like in the NBA, and what the day-to-day job entails.
  • Contrasting what life is like “in the league” versus what it’s like in the private sector.
  • How he can leverage his time and what he learned in the NBA into his coaching today.
  • How his philosophy has shifted and evolved since he first got started in the game.
  • The intersection between S&C and PT, and how to better blend the two.
  • Should strength coaches become PT’s? And what potential advantages are there to doing that?
  • The BIG Question (take 2)
  • Our always popular lightning round where we talk kiddos, advice for the private sector, advice for getting into the NBA, and what’s next for Mike Irr.

If you want to give your athletes real-world strength that will carry over to the court…

…help them build the power and explosiveness to blow by defenders or finish at the rim…

…or give them the brakes they need to stop on a dime and stay healthy, you need to join IFAST Basketball Insiders!

Each and every month, you’re going to get access to high-end content from myself and trusted experts that will help you write better programs, coach more effectively, and get the absolute most out of your workouts.

With everything from sample programs you can swipe and deploy, to case studies showing real-world results, and even exercise breakdowns and tutorials, my goal is to make sure that every program you write and exercise you coach is more effective for your basketball players.

But the content is really just the starting point, as every month we’ll have a Q&A call where you can ask me anything about your basketball players.

And last but not least, when you join IBI you’re going to be surrounded by a community of basketball strength and conditioning coaches – people who are not only doing this at a high-level themselves, but who also want to help you succeed as well.

If you’re serious about taking your basketball strength and conditioning skills to the next level, just head over to IFASTBasketballInsiders.com to get signed up.

I can’t wait to see you in there!
