I just heard my dear friend through fitness and health–Dr. John Sullivan passed away a couple of weeks ago… which is cause for some pause and reflection…
I met “Doc” John through the RKC Kettlebell certifications, and we became fast friends. This show was from November 2011. It was one of the shows that got hacked out of my website years ago and vanished out of my iTunes library. When I heard about John’s passing, I remembered that I still had the original audio file.
A few years after this show in 2017, I accepted John’s offer to visit him in Lafayette, LA where he graciously put me up a few days with his wonderful wife Julia and cherished dog “Scooter.” John took me over to Red’s Gym which has been voted as the #1 gym in America. After visiting Red’s, I agree. John proceeded to take me into the bodyweight strength room where there were things like climbing ropes attached to a high ceiling…then he handed me my arse even though he was many years my senior! It was quite a humbling experience, and of course, he did it with a quiet smile of humility too. Doc really got my attention that day. I can honestly say it was a real turning point in my life and training philosophy.
To honor John’s legacy, I have reposted this 2011 show so we can hear his thoughts on strength training and philosophy, sugar addiction, and life in general…he was funny, witty, authentic, and honest.
Thanks for being a great friend, a good teacher, an amazing chiropractic physician and helper–and someone who could really listen and disagree but remain friends through strength and honor. He was also a great American and US Marine and paratrooper with over a thousand jumps in his career.
This was “Doc” John Sullivan. RIP.
In Strength and Gratitude, -RJ
