Hugh Jones, a retired British long-distance runner, boasts a rich legacy in marathon history. Born in London, he clinched victory in the 1982 London Marathon, becoming the first Welshman to do so with an impressive time of 2:09:24. His marathon prowess continued with a notable 12th position in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, clocking 2:13:57. Since 1996, he has served as the Secretary of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). Additionally, he took the helm as the President of the Road Runners Club from 2007 to 2011.
