This 4-part series focuses on how we can take a genuine approach to D&I in our workplaces and this third episode is where we focus on what leaders can do to create a thriving and inclusive place to work. We view leadership with 'a little L' as we are all leaders at some point in our working day - its the moment where you take the lead in a conversation, decision or action that impacts another.
Intended or not, every move a leader makes casts a shadow that influences how inclusive a workplace is. Not only the formal moments where exclusion can happen (e.g. selection decisions around recruitment, promotions, access to learning and development) but also informal moments that can become patterns.
We share top tips for leaders both current and aspiring about how to practice and encourage others to be inclusive. Even if this isn't a passion area for some, to be seen not caring about inclusion will increasingly be less acceptable and inspirational. We have yet to see an exit interview where a talented leaver says that the problem is due to their manager 'being too inclusive'.
