Neil McClendon, Lead Pastor
GOD’S INVITATION TO OUR CHURCH
Psalm 95
1. Come on
a) Worship is proportional to our understanding of God
b) Sanctification is a process not an event
Three things you want to outgrow this year…
1) your marriage
2) yourself
3) your knowledge of God
2. Come in
“Truth without emotion produces dead orthodoxy and a church full of artificial admirers. On the other hand, emotion without truth produces empty frenzy and cultivates shallow people who refuse the discipline of rigorous thought. But true worship comes from people who are deeply emotional and who love deep and sound doctrine. Strong affections for God rooted in truth are the bone and marrow of biblical worship.”
- John Piper
3. Listen
God speaks primarily in four ways…
a) Word
b) prayer
c) spiritual authority
d) circumstances
Mental worship…
1. What is God inviting you to in this new year?
2. How do you worship when you are not singing in church?
3. What have you seen God do that will keep you from testing God or insisting He to prove Himself to you?
4. Do you ever harden your heart towards God? If so, what are you trying to protect yourself from?
5. What do you hear God saying to you today?
