Episode #139 - Mojave Road Adventure

Thanks for coming back to listen. We know that there are lots of other options for podcasts but you have chosen to give your time to The 4x4 Podcast.

Today’s interview was mentioned during the Christmas gift guide with Frank Rebelo from http://Trail4Runner.com

We explored the Mojave Road from West to east

We used the Mojave Road Guide book, written by Dennis Casebier

Mojave Road Guide - An Adventure Through Time by Dennis G Casebier for $36.95 https://amzn.to/2BUG0sX

Ran the road from West to East but the book is written to travel the other way.

  • Missed the triangles
  • Mojave River crossing was first real obstacle
  • Afton Canyon and the geologic features
  • Soda lake and the travelers monument - camped on the edge of lake at Cow Mountain
  • Saw Zxyzx resort at a distance
  • Mojave mailbox and frog shrine
  • Saw Marl Spring
  • Saw Mojave camp but it was full of people so we kept traveling
  • Missed the lava tubes
  • Government holes but it's just one well
  • Checked out the homestead but it's going off hantavirus rat turds
  • Joshua tree Forest
  • Flew past the penny can tree by accident and didn't even see it
  • Watson Wash Hill climb vs “drop in”
  • Saw where the old school bus used to be but it's long gone
  • To the incorrect detour around the flooded area
  • Skipped fort piute due to time. Good thing we did too based on tire failures
  • Piute River basin
  • Colorado River

Learned a lot about tires as we have 4 of the 10 tires (2 were on the trailer) on the trip fail.

We are a part of the 4x4 radio network.
