Alternate Ending was formed when three friends realized that they all shared a passion for movies. Tim had been reviewing films at his old blog Antagony & Ecstasy for over a decade, and Rob & Carrie had found great success with their year-old podcast, when they all decided to combine forces to create a new site, dedicated to their desire to watch and discuss the best (and worst) that cinema has to offer. The result is the website you see before you. What makes Alternate Ending different from all the other film sites on the internet? Well, we humbly suggest that it's the three of us: very different people with very different thoughts about the movie. Too many film sites cater to the same kind of audience, with one overwhelming voice in the writing, but what we treasure at Alternate Ending is diversity: diversity of opinion, diversity in belief about what film should do and how it should do it. We want to celebrate our different opinions, and celebrate yours as well. This isn't a site for people who just want to talk about the latest hot new movies in theaters right this minute. This is a site for people who can't get to the theater until the third week a film is out; a site for people who just want to find something great to stream online after the kids have gone to sleep, a site for people whose favorite pastime is to grab a bunch of classic films on DVD from the library and watch them all weekend. It's a site that believes that every great movie is a wonderful new treasure, whether you see it the night of its premiere or fifty years later. It's a site about discovering good movies, one bad movie at a time.

Brennan is joined this week by Brian and Gavin, and the three of them chat about the films coming out soon to U.S. (and French!) theaters. While the three of them try to figure what the hell a Minecraft is, they discover that there are plenty of interesting-looking genre films sneaking out amongst the unimpressive-looking heavy hitters. Before that, Brennan discusses the 1981 German art film Taxi zum Klo , a groundbreaking representation of gay sex in cinema, at the request of Patreon supporter Freya, while Brian and Gavin whether Disney's new butchery of Snow White or Netflix butchery of life itself, The Electric State , is the more aggravating way to have set more than a quarter of a billion dollars on fire.…

Editor's note: apologies to Mandy for bumping this episode by a week to make room for our Oscar special . Starting in April, Your Movie Rocks will be back to its usual spot on the first Tuesday of the month. Welcome to Your Movie Rocks, an Alternate Ending podcast hosted by Mandy Albert. For every episode, Mandy will watch a movie assigned by her guest host, followed by a lively discussion. There’s only one rule: no matter what the movie does to her, Mandy is only allowed to love it. On Episode 1, Mandy and AE horrormeister Brennan Klein think and speak at length about The Bye Bye Man , a movie whose previous claim to fame was inspiring one of the all-time great Tim Brayton review lines . Tune in to find out how far Mandy's unconditional love for Doug Jones can carry her, and why Brennan is still thinking about it (and saying it) eight years after its release.…
Hot on the heels of Anora winning five Oscars, the Alternate Ending crew is here with our thoughts on the ceremony and winners. Tim is joined by Cameron and Caleb to discuss the best and worst outfits, the relative merits of musical performances at the Academy Awards, the etiquette of the In Memoriam montage, and what we lost when the Academy refused to stage a face-off between Dune: Part Two and Furiosa . Your Movie Rocks with Mandy Albert has been postponed for a week. Look for the next episode of that series on Tuesday, March 11!…
This week, Brennan takes over hosting duties to welcome returning guests Andrew and Zev. The three of them share notes on the movies coming up over the next month, doing their absolute best to avoid talking about the Snow White -shaped elephant in the room while coming up with some promising smaller releases that we don't want to see fall through the cracks. Before that, it's a century-long tour of cinema during the movie roundtable, as Zev shares his thoughts on Alfred Hitchcock's silent thriller Downhill , Andrew checks out the Hong Kong action cult classic In the Line of Duty 4 , and Brennan takes us right up to the current year, visiting the internet's favorite marmalade-eating bear as he stars in Paddington in Peru .…

With Valentine's day coming up any day now, we couldn't pass up the chance to talk about romantic movies and love stories. Tim is joined by Brian Fowler, Your Movie Rocks host Mandy Albert, and new member of the podcast family Cameron Shaw to kick around questions of what makes a romantic movie, what doesn't , and our own histories with cinematic love stories. Before that happens, Tim discusses the 2018 Penguin Highway , courtesy of Patreon supporter Kyrie, while Cameron shares her thoughts on the unjustly overlooked new release Better Man . Mandy's thoughts on the justly overlooked Reagan sparks some thoughts on conservative cinema. And Brian has managed to scrounge up a David Lynch concert documentary that nobody else on the show had ever ever heard of. * * * * * And as promised on the episode, a very special (and slightly embarrassing) treat: a music video that Tim directed way back in the early 2010s for Rob: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNA435VwlbM…

In addition, Tim shares his thoughts on the elegant and subtle Italian character drama Strip Nude for Your Killer , Andrew takes a dive into all four hours of Fassbinder's World on a Wire , and Gavin looks at the recent French-Canadian psychodrama Red Rooms . For our first episode of 2025, we're taking a look back over the year that was. Tim and Brennan are joined by guests Zev Burrows and Caleb Wimble to talk about our favorite and least-favorite films of 2024, as well as the best surprises, biggest disappointments, and our picks for the most overlooked films of the year. While the people of the Los Angeles metro area are dealing with one of the most devastating natural disasters in modern U.S. history, Brennan would like to invite you to take a look at a GoFundMe campaign to help a family of a beloved local business: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-the-bulgarini-family Zev, meanwhile, is proud to announce the release of a new album: https://www.apmmusic.com/albums/MPATH_MPATH_0227 And Caleb has just completed work on a new indie table top RPG: https://www.letusbuildatower.com/…
Tim and Brennan welcome new guest Brian Fowler to the show as we discuss holiday horror, as well as requests by Patreon supporters Mandy Albert and Josh Lawrence.
