You guys, things get real serious in Episode 9. We are exhausted from Pride weekend - physically and emotionally. Prepare for all the feels. Then we examine our inner astrological selves based on our moon signs. After talking so much about us, we ran out of time to talk about any one else, so we didn't actually get to our final segment, "Other People Matter: Opinions." Our Wish You Were Here recommendations go together like music and dancing.

Katherine, Alyssa, and Megan at Pride in 2014.

Show Notes

Katherine and Megan are back in the same exact room!

In this episode, get ready for Streetwalking in SLC - Pride Edition, then we will moon you with moon signs, and end with Other People Matter: Opinions.

Part I: Streetwalking in SLC

PRIDE!

We are tired today guys. It’s Pride weekend. It’s a big deal in SLC/a big deal everywhere. Megan wants to know, has SLC’s Pride met Katherine’s expectations? Katherine started with low expectations - it’s Utah, it’s on Sunday, it’s early in the morning. But there are a ton of people and it is a big event.

Megan never went to Pride in Indianapolis before she moved away. But when she lived in DC, she attended in full force. They have actual floats. Megan attended in Indy during her bachelorette weekend, and Katherine walked in Chicago’s parade with Obama’s senate campaign. SLC is super family oriented, and there are tons of families at the event. There are lots of kids both in the parade and watching the parade. Also a lot of mimosas for the adults.

Touchy-feely alert: Being with Alyssa is happy and loving, and feels very much like home and being safe. And Pride feels a lot like that - very safe. This sort of fits in with the myth of coming out. You don’t get to come out just once. It’s something you do day in and day out. And it’s still something that’s a little scary each time (like a new coworker). But at Pride, there is no hesitation to come out. Katherine had a tiny little hint of what that might feel like when she told her conservative coworkers that she was going to Pride this weekend. Privilege check.

Megan also realizes the love that has always surrounded her, from her family and friends. And it’s not something that everyone today or in other generations got to have. She came out to most of her sorority sisters the day after graduation, and no one disappointed her.

Siri jumps into the conversation at this point.

Part II: We’re Going to Moon You

Not butts. Moon signs. Whether you believe any of this or not, it’s interesting to read.

A few months ago Katherine was drinking with friends and someone asked her what her moon sign was. Apparently, your “sign,” that sad excuse for a bar pick up line, is your sun sign, or your external, active, outgoing part of your personality that people can see and pick up on. Things you are willing to express to the world around you. Your moon sign is about your inner, instinctual, intuitive, unseen reactions to things, that you might not even recognize yourself. whats-your-sign.com can’t lie, right?

This particular Wine Wednesday, Katherine found out her moon sign. It depends on the day and time that you were born. Katherine’s combo is INTENSE. Katherine is a capricorn. Capricorns are very intelligent and very practical. Goal oriented, organized, patient, persevering, they finish whatever they take on.

Megan is a pisces - they keep a low profile compared to other signs. Honest, unselfish, trustworthy, they can be over cautious and sometimes gullible. They are “beautifully gentle and generous.” Megan is pretty fucking gentle, dammit. They can become passionately devoted to a cause.

Katherine’s moon sign is scorpio, which means she has an extremely strong inner drive and a keen sense of her own importance. Apparently she can communicate disapproval without a word. It is difficult to persuade her that she’s wrong. She’s very honorable, loyal, and devoted.

Megan’s long-awaited moon sign is… aries! Her inner nature is very different from her outer personality. It’s hard to strike a balance between inward peace and reactions that are very impulsive and quick. Strong urge for personal advancement and recognition. You know what you like, and you like it a lot. In many ways you seem to be very assertive, competitive, and driven but you are not always as certain as you appear. There is a good bit of bluff in your personality.

Both Megan and Katherine agree that it would be nice to reign in the strong and “easily read” emotions that they have.

Suddenly this became our most self-reflective episode. Shit got real - and not real funny.

Shout out to Beth, our biggest fan - we owe you a special drawing!

Part III: Other People Matter: Opinions

Okay actually we talked to much about ourselves this episode, so we’re going to skip the other people this time. Sorry!

Wish You Were Here

Katherine: is in the middle of wedding season, with four weddings in five weeks. One of the things she loves most about weddings is the dancing. So Katherine’s WYWH is “dance like no one is watching” - the feeling, not the song. It’s fun, it makes you feel happy, it burns off all that alcohol.

Megan: recommends Coloring Book, the new album from Chance the Rapper. You can stream it online. Her favorite song is called Same Drugs, and it has all these Peter Pan references. It’s got some feels.
