In Episode 8, we finally find out - where in the world is Katherine Zachara? (For now at least). And what mysterious organization does she really work for? She tells us all about working, riding camels, checking out pyramids, and trying to track down everyone's favorite Egyptian chickpea dip. Next, Alyssa and Megan talk about Tour de Brewtah, a local charity bike ride/brewery tour. In Alyssa Explains It All, we search for sanity in this presidential race, even if Alyssa can't fully explain why people support Donald Trump. We wrap up with Wish You Were Here, recommending some other awesome podcasts hosted by female duos, and adorable newborn baby Cubs gear.

Katherine and her camel

Show Notes

Where in the world is...Katherine Zachara? (I dare you to read that without singing the Carmen Sandiego theme song)
Carmen Sandiego

Today, Megan, Alyssa, and Katherine will discuss where Katherine is and why she’s there (SPOILER ALERT it’s Egypt), discuss some local Utah activities that Megan and Alyssa partooken (partaken? partook?) in, Alyssa will explain it all: The Trump Candidacy, and finally we’ll finish with the old standby, wish you were here.

Oh and did we mention that we’ve been upgraded from amateurs to professional podcasters who are apparently paid in lap dances? Yeah, it was a surprise to me too.

Well enough dilly dallying, let’s get this show on the road!

Part 1: Where in the World is Katherine Zachara?

So as we record the episode, Katherine is sitting in her hotel room in Cairo overlooking the Nile. On a clear day she can even see the pyramids of Giza and Saqqara (not to be confused with Zachara). But the question is, what brought here there? Is she a spy? Does she work for “the Company”? Nope.

And finally, the answer you’ve all been waiting for, drum roll please, Katherine works in development focusing on education reform! (yep, not nearly as exciting as our musings.) While most of her days are spent working on documents in windowless rooms, there is still some adventure. Tune in to hear her best “lost in translation” moment from traveling. E.V.E.R.. It’s a doozy guys. Who would have thought locating hummus in Egypt would be so difficult? Or dangerous?

Ok friends, apparently Megan thinks naming your car is not something a grown ass woman does. But I think we can all agree that’s not quite true, right? Tweet at us your car names and we’ll read them on the air! @notfromherepod.

Katherine in Cairo

Part 2: Local Tales from SLC

In this segment we discuss things made in Utah including polygamists, salt, and beer! First, we explore how the three of us have finally become sister wives, all married to Alyssa and Megan’s dog Murle aka Murle Dog; M.D.; or Dr. Dog.

With that clarified, we get into Megan and Alyssa’s experience of the Tour de Brewtah, a cycling pub crawl of various Salt Lake City breweries. Yes, there are breweries in Salt Lake City. Unfortunately, Katherine had to miss the experience due to the last minute work trip, so instead of a bike tour, she rode a camel and may or may not have broken a private part…Somehow we get off topic (a first for us I know) and tell some funny air travel stories of people putting crazy stuff in our bags as a surprise. Tip: it’s probably not a good idea to put a magnet in someone’s pocket without their knowledge.

Then we delve into all the intricacies of Utah drinking restrictions and laws. It’s more interesting than it sounds :) While Katherine drank wine by herself in the hotel, Megan and Alyssa toured Salt Lake on their bikes, leisurely tasting beers from the various local breweries. It was a quintessential Utah experience combining drinking with outdoorsiness. Not all that different from the 50 states and 13 colonies rides in DC.

Part 3: Alyssa Explains It All: The Trump Candidacy

Now it’s time to jump into something that has been largely ignored by the media - how on earth is Trump doing so well in the Republican race?? Please Alyssa explain this! Katherine really needs some guidance on how to explain Trump as she travels to foreign countries.

Basically, he seems to be latching on to fear and hatred. Overall, we’re pretty disappointed in how this election is going. Alyssa explained it best through a meme she saw which said that the election between Hillary and Trump will be like sitting next to a couple at a restaurant and being forced to listen to them argue about how to treat the maid. ‘Nough said.

Twirling toward freedom

Wish You Were Here

Katherine: She wishes that she was here! Just kidding, she wishes the podcast Good Muslim Bad Muslim was here. It’s a great show about two bad-ass Muslim American ladies who talk about current events affecting the Muslim “community” (recognizing that Muslims do not make up one homogenized community).

Alyssa: The Riveters podcast - also hosted by two women. One is a political strategist and campaign manager and the other runs an international NGO. They mostly talk about “womanhood.” According to them, it is “an unfiltered ode to the modern woman.“ Check it out!

Megan: Chicago Cubs’ "Newborn Fan Club". The Cubs will take a photo of your newborn baby’s name, weight, birthday, etc put up on the marquee and will send you a framed photo along with a Cubs birth certificate and other goodies. It’s the perfect gift for the child of a mega Cubs fan!
