Our studio producer Zohar Leader recently returned from a 320 km hike in northern Spain. She followed the route of the pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. El Camino-The Way of St James.
I interviewed Zohar about her pilgrimage, her trip, her hike- call it what you will.
In between Zohar's descriptions I played music consisting of some modern day Spanish folk music, some ancient music, some regional music and some wonderful tracks of sounds which she indeed heard along the way. These tracks came from the wonderful work of the late Oliver Schroer who recorded them along the way of his own pilgrimage, which he made in 2004 . He composed some beautiful music which he played and recorded in various churches and places along the route.
His pilgrimage resulted in a most beautiful CD, "Camino", which I received courtesy of Borealis Records.
The track of Mariza- the incredible Portugese Fado singer, was one which Zohar heard playing when she visited a pub after the long day's hike.
The playlist follows:
1) Big Mama & Victor Uris / No Way Out / Blues Around The World-Putumayo
2) Ojos de Brujo / Tanguila de Maria / World 2004
3) L'Ham De Foc / L'estimado Del Corb / Froots Compilation #26
4) Susana Seivane / Fonsagrada/ Froots Compilation # 14
5) Oliver Schroer / Camino Overture / Camino Borealis Records
6) Oliver Schroer/ Bells & Birds / Camino
7) Astorga - Afternoon Bells / Camino
8) Mariza / O Gente Da Minha Terra/ Froots Compilation #19
9) Field Of Stars / Camino
10) Santiago Street Sounds / Camino
11) Radio Tarifa / Cruzando El Rio / Fiebre - Wrasse Records
