In this thought provoking and interesting episode I have the honour of interviewing Alison Hill, a constable with the Vancouver Police Department. Alison is currently in the Research and Policy Division and before that, spent 5 years as an Indigenous Relations Officer.
Alison is honoured to share her experiences, focussing on the importance of placing Community at the centre of our practices, and her time as an Indigenous Relations Officer. Alison talks about SisterWatch, led by an incredible group of Matriarchs, and the website SisterWatch.ca, which provides safety information for women and girls, and resources for families with missing loved ones.
Alison also shares a framework of engagement with Indigenous Communities that was created for her by Métis Elders Betty Gladue and Philip Gladue. Embedded in the balance of the Medicine Wheel, the framework promotes respect and humility for public safety professionals as gateways to trust and safety for Community.
This episode will leave you with goosebumps and strategies to put into your daily work to improve your community and foster positive engagement with those around you.
Season 3 is proudly sponsored by Alberta Defensive Tactics Training owned by local Peace Officer Jamie Erickson.
