In this week's episode, Rye interviews Kyle McAvoy, who has been a nurse practitioner for over 32 years and is passionate about helping women of all ages and backgrounds achieve hormone balance and health-related goals.

Originally from New York, Kyle moved west after completing her BA in French. She then decided her other passion was health and wellness, so she attended undergraduate and graduate school at Oregon Health & Science University. Today, Kyle consults with women dealing with hormone imbalance symptoms as part of her private practice, and you can reach out to Kyle via email if you’re interested in scheduling a call (see below!)

Kyle is also the co-founder of the podcast Women Talking Frankly, WTF - along with Rye + Jess's mom, Hormone Health Educator, Candace Burch!

In this episode we discuss:

- What led to Kyle's work as an NP (and her decision to leave the traditional care model in search of a more integrative approach)

-Thoughts on hormonal birth control (in response to the recent Washington Post article)

-How the western medical model differs from integrative or functional medicine

-How to find a provider that actually listens and specializes in women’s health

-How to approach your doctors visits feeling more confident

-Questions to ask your doctor or provider

-Strategies for using your health care dollars wisely

-Thoughts on bioidentical hormones for women of different ages / how to request them

-The risks that accompany natural hormonal birth control methods

-Basic tests you can get through your doctor / covered by insurance

-Kyle's biggest health advice: find what you LOVE
