Today's young people face enormous amount of challenges as they're growing up including low self-esteem, bullying, remote learning, and distractions from social media. The world with all of its advances, has become more and more complicated for our young leaders. If you enjoy working with youth, you should definitely try mentoring. If you are a good decision maker, love to learn, have integrity and respect others, you would do great as a youth mentor. These are all areas that will allow you to connect and add value to them.

In this show, Tywauna 'Coach Tee' Wilson gives tips for mentoring today's youth! We will go deeper into positive traits of a youth mentor and success tips for building positive relationships.

Considerations when mentoring youth:

  1. Build trust
  2. Dig deep trying to figure out what your mentee needs (sometimes they don't know how to communicate it)
  3. Have fun, it shouldn't be all work
  4. Make them a part of the process
  5. Don't be too pushy or they will shut down
  6. Be an active listener
  7. Keep it positive especially when they are venting
  8. Stay upbeat and don't let their frustration become yours
