The fierce and wise physician, epidemiologist, author, and leader for sustainable and equitable change Monica Sharma joins Terry to reflect on her years of experience with UN public health initiatives and help us see the current pandemic in a cross-cultural, historical, and more humanizing context. Monica speaks to the challenges and tremendous courage of migrant workers, health professionals, children, and so many living in poverty navigating several crises at once. Ultimately, Monica clarifies that can we stand up with a “strong spine” in principled rage and a “soft belly” in forgiveness and compassion, asserting that we must learn to do both in order to defend those who need us.

Monica worked at the UN for more than 20 years, and she continues to engage worldwide as an international expert and practitioner on leadership development, working with the UN, universities, management institutions, government, business, media and civil society organizations. She’s the Tata Chair Professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai and her book Radical Transformational Leadership is a tremendously important and valuable book.
