For today’s conversation, we’re sitting down with actress Lesley-Ann Brandt. Her journey begins in South Africa, where she grew up during the final years of Apartheid. She shares what it was like growing up in institutionalized segregation and how, at 17 years old, her family left the country to move to New Zealand. It was here where she discovered her desire to be on screen, and also where she booked her first series role. Since she’s known for her work on shows like Gotham, Single Ladies, Spartacus, and for her portrayal of Mazikeen on the hit show Lucifer.

She shares how she made it to the states, found a manager, endured lots of no’s, and made countless sacrifices so she could create a life telling stories on screen. She also share’s what she’s learned from working with so many accomplished actors, how she’s continued to expand and improve her craft, and what’s next for her after five years of creating an original character on a hit TV show.
