Hi, I’m Gemma Clay, Founder of Sweet Pea Care. Welcome to The Care & Dementia Podcast - a show where we take a closer look at all aspects of later life care so we can help our loved ones live better for longer.

On today’s show I’m excited to be joined by Beth Britton, an award-winning dementia author and campaigner.

Beth cared for her dad with vascular dementia for 19 years and has gone on to be a real force for positive change in the world of dementia care.

She’s an award-winning blogger, a consultant, and a trainer who’s worked with big names like the Dept for Health and Social Care and The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. Her blog, D4Dementia, is one of the top dementia blogs out there full of super helpful advice.

This chat is taken from a webinar I recently conducted for Sweet Pea Care where Beth kindly shared her own experiences as a dementia carer plus gave helpful advice that can make a big difference in your caregiving journey.

So if you are feeling overwhelmed and like you’re battling on your own this is for you. There’s tips on mealtimes, sleep patterns, de-escalating stress and emotional upset and also why it’s vital to take care of ourselves.

This is actually part one of a two part interview so make sure you catch the next instalment where Beth talks about the practical changes we can all make around the house to make caring for someone with dementia that little bit easier.

This chat starts with Beth getting straight into her own experience of caring for her father, and what that entailed.
