In this episode, the DIY Endeavors Podcast visits new writer and aspiring audio narrator Peter O’Malley.
Peter talks about dedicating one’s self to creative endeavors later in life, early steampunk sources, allowing well-intentioned discouragement to derail a creative path, using voice dictation to make the most of commuting time, getting your kids involved in National Novel Writing Month, mortality as a driver, and much more.
Additionally, I talk about my own creative endeavors and progress in the two weeks since the last episode, including the creation of the new, definitive audio book edition of my first novel, Brave Men Run—A Novel of the Sovereign Era. The pre-order for the audio book runs until September 7, 2015, you can name your own price, and every pre-order will also receive a brand new Sovereign Era short story e-book as a free bonus.
“There’s lots of things you’re gonna do. Just do ’em. Because that idiot driving the semi coming at the cross street doesn’t care. Life doesn’t care. The universe doesn’t care. So do the things you wanna do. Try for your dreams, because we’ve only got so many ticks on our clock, and when they’re gone, they’re gone.” — Peter O’Malley

The theme song of The DIY Endeavors Podcast, “Gnatcatcher,” was recorded on a Zoom R16 digital multitrack recorder using a 1971 Gibson Ripper bass guitar and a the-year-doesn’t-matter Fender Squire Stratocaster Bullet. Drum sequencing was done with Mixcraft 7. I wrote the song and played everything.
