"The reward is in the journey, not the destination."
For some, focusing on the journey or the process of becoming rather than on a specific outcome removes the pressure of goalsetting. This is particularly true of those who think achieving the goal will help them feel better about themselves.
But for those who struggle with time scarcity thoughts ("I'm behind in life," "I have to make up for lost time," "It's too late") "becoming" and "journey" create feelings of resistance because they suggest it will take time people feel they don't have to achieve the results they want.
This is when it helps to view things from a different perspective.
In previous episodes, I talked about zooming out to see goals from a long-term point of view (the journey). In this episode, I talk about zooming in to view goals in a more finite way -- as bridging a gap. When you can look at the process of achieving a goal as bridging the gap from where you are to where you want to go (or from who you are to who you want to become), you reduce overwhelm and anxiety and have more mental space to focus on creating the results you want.
