Summary:
Mr Bennet has visited Mr Bingley but still wants to play a joke on his wife that he hasn’t been. He however asks his daughter, Lizzy, while she in trimming a hat, if she believes that Mr Bingley will like it. This causes his wife to round on him, and say that they shall never know, as they do not have an acquaintance with him. When it comes out that he has actually been to visit him, all of his daughters stare at him in shock. Mrs Bennet pauses to compose herself, and then pretends to know that he should have gone all along, and that his joke was very funny. The girls then delightfully discuss when they will be able to see Mr Bingley properly.
