Having concluded our series on some of the best horror films of 2023, we are launching a new series focusing on a classic from modern literature that seems to be having a creative moment. A handful of films were released within the past year that took their inspiration directly from Mary Shelley's classic novel Frankenstein. So we're kicking off a mini-series of a few of those this week by taking a look at an adaptation of the original story.

Kenneth Branagh's lavish -- and somewhat indulgent -- film is grand in ambition and a bit uneven in pacing. But it remains one of the most faithful adaptations of Shelley's novel to date. We dive into its merits and its oddities as we launch this series exploring what makes this tale so timeless and why it is striking a particular chord for this season.

Also featuring the long-awaited listener voted Top Ten Horror Films of 2023, this is a fun and thoughtful conversation that we hope you enjoy!
