In today’s episode, we speak to Brooke Glazer, a registered dietitian, who specializes in helping people with eating disorders and disordered eating and healing their relationship with food in their bodies. Brooke believes that full recovery of an eating disorder is absolutely possible and wants to help people get there. During our conversation, Brooke speaks about recovering from her own eating disorder and how she uses her own experience to help others recover. She shares why your relationship to food (how you think about it and feel about it) is integral to recovery, things to look out for if you suspect someone may have an eating disorder, and why it can be hard to seek support when you think you’re not “sick enough”. In this episode we cover:
  • Brooke shares her experience with having an eating disorder [1:41]
  • How you think about food, that is also really important for recovery [8:12]
  • Signs of an eating disorder and the difference between having an eating disorder and disordered eating [10:36]
  • Why “sick enough” isn’t a good parameter for seeking help and the stigma around other eating disorders [16:01]
  • Misinformation around diet and health [21:39]
  • Approaching and supporting those who you suspect may have an eating disorder [26:46]
  • Immersing yourself in environments that have healthy approaches to food [29:49]
  • Is a full recovery possible? [33:30]
