Today I get to chat with Lisa Schroder - tea drinker, artist and admirer of pretty things. We talk about art as a vehicle to inspire and minister to people and breaking the idea that you can’t be a Mum and an artist at the same time because of time limitations. We chat about what it looks like to juggle babies while working from home and how fulfilling the call of God on your life may look different to how you thought.

Lisa shares with us how she kept putting off her desire to paint because she didn’t think she had time, until one day she made time for it and how making that one change, altered the course of her life. Now she is happier than she has ever been.

We also talk about valuing the skills and desires that God has intentionally placed inside of each one of us and stepping into what we should be doing.

Lisa inspires us to get rid of excuses, jump in and push the boundaries.
She thought she didn’t have time. “If I’ve only got 15 minutes then that’s what I’m going to do…I made a deliberate decision to start painting.”

"I didn’t have any space in my life for it." (Finding space for what makes you happy)

“It was the decision that I made to just get started.”

“Something inside of me wanted to express itself and I needed to let it out.”

God was the first true artist.

“This is what God has put inside of me to do and become. It’s my responsibility to honour that gift and let it out.”

“It was a journey. You don’t arrive at a gallery straight away.”

Lisa taught herself through youtube videos.

Lisa was inspired by a mother of twin babies who was entering art competitions. “If she can do it…I’m gonna give this a go…no excuses.”

“I just gave the art in me a little push and the doors flew open.”

“I was letting what God had inside of me out.” “I feel like I have stepped into what I should be doing.”

“Sometimes you’ve just got to take that leap.”

Making a living as an artist.

Charities - being able to use her art to make a difference people’s lives.

Equipping our children with skills to do what they want to do.

“Don’t be afraid of making big leaps, ‘cause if you only ever think small about your art then that’s all you’re ever going to paint. And don’t be afraid to jump out and do something that you’ve never done before. And push the boundaries."
