Today, on Episode #61 of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we explore the best time for you to relax during the day so that your brain and body can let go into a blissful sleep.😴

As you’re lying in bed at night, there are a lot of factors that may be preventing you from drifting off:

  • your own thoughts🧠
  • pain and discomfort😫
  • temperature🌡
  • light💡
  • illness🤒
  • pets or children🐕

But one huge factor that you probably don’t even think about🤔 is cortisol.

Your cortisol levels are typically at their highest in the morning. That’s what naturally pushes us to wake up and get started with our day.

Throughout the day, those levels fluctuate, trending down toward the end of the day.

Lower levels of cortisol at bedtime mean better rest and the ability to more easily let go into sleep.🥱

But how do we control this drop in cortisol?

I’m glad you asked!😉

This month, we have been talking about various ways to relax during the day, why it is so difficult and how important it is to practice until it becomes a habit.

Those relaxation habits you have been practicing all month are the best tools for helping control the release of cortisol in your body.🙌

Stress = higher levels of cortisol.

So when you utilize your relaxation habits during stressful situations, you combat 👊 the release of cortisol and help ensure you enter your sleep cycle ready and relaxed.

The good news is that we have been preparing for this all month 💪 by recognizing the when, where and how of our relaxation habits.

So start to recognize your spontaneous moments of relaxation. Plan out your favorite relaxation techniques in your favorite places.

And notice how you begin to feel🤗 after a good night’s sleep.
