Low back pain, posture, and movement seem like they would have a super obvious relationship.

Bad posture would cause low back pain, right??? Or “poor” movement will cause low back pain, right???

These commonly held perceptions around the causes of low back pain are deeply engrained into our societies folk and academic healthcare models. But this can be very problematic when not audited and investigated in the form of negative attitudes and beliefs surrounding why people hurt.

Enter: Kevin Wernli, a Physio and PhD student under the likes of Peter O Sullivan and team out of Australia who is investigating exactly these claims!

This episode was a fantastic opportunity to have a discussion around this very important topic with someone who is in the trenches of academia taking a deeper look at these commonly held beliefs!

We discuss how things like posture and movement ARE important, but probably not as important as we think…

More importantly, we discuss a framework for what current best practice might look like when treating patients with low back pain.

We think this episode will be extremely helpful for new graduates and students looking to have insight into what psychologically informed practice looks like in action. Kevin has attached a link with all relevant show notes organized!

Enjoy!
