Rest is of paramount importance to continue to function at the highest level. When we deprive ourselves of rest, we can do harm.

In today's episode, we discuss why rest is essential for a healthy mind, body, and spirit.

The weekends are supposed to be a period of rest. In other cultures, the siesta for instance, is normalized as a daily rest period in the afternoon. Sleep is a physiologic period of rest. What if we prioritized sleep and rest?

We provide some examples of periods of rest such as savasana at the end of yoga class. We discuss diastole during the cardiac cycle.

When recovering from an infectious respiratory ailment, rest is key to healing.

The culture of healthcare has not been traditionally conducive to rest for its caregivers.

Giving ourselves permission to rest can be hard, especially when during medical training there was an expectation to show up for shifts even if you were sick.

What if we noticed when we are “fake” resting and instead opted to truly rest. What if we choose to model resting for our peers, trainees, our patients, and children.

What is really restful for you?

What is true rest for you?

What could happen if you were intentional about scheduling rest?
