"Real Nurses" Series: 1 of 5
FOUR MILLION nurses nationwide. "The most trusted profession" for 20 years in a row, according to recent surveys. But wait! Who are these nurses? Can you trust the WHOLE profession? Are all nurses created equal in trustworthiness?
No. In fact, I suggest you never trust a profession - or any other for that matter. Here's who you should trust: PEOPLE.

So, what makes a nurse stand out from the rest? How can one differentiate a nurse from a NURSE? I put together a list of values /characteristics that explains the difference, based on my personal opinion. When I think of the very best nurses out there - the ones I believe should be trusted, they have these characteristics and values!
To keep it short, I boiled it down to 5 things that mark an exceptional nurse:

REAL NURSESā€¦

  1. RESPECT THE PROFESSION (this episode)
  2. PUT IN THE WORK
  3. STAY HUMBLE
  4. PRACTICE WHAT THEY PREACH
  5. LOVE LIFE & PEOPLE

For this series, I've separated each characteristic into it's own separate episode.
In this podcast we are going to focus on "RESPECT THE PROFESSION".

AS NURSES, we respect our profession when:

  • We recognize and appreciate the hard work that begins AFTER nursing school. This is sacred work and it should be taken very seriously.
  • We honor nursing work and value it even when others don't. We NEVER compromise patient care for someone else's bad intentions. Nursing is bigger than our boss, organization, hospital, or any other employer.
  • We represent the nursing profession well by striving to be people of integrity and virtue, lovingly standing for truth with no hidden agenda. Individual medical liberty and freedom should be at the core of our practice.

Let your work speak for itself.
Let it be rooted on unbiased evidence based practice.
Let your words be true and always speak with a loving heart.
Let people have the freedom to make decisions for themselves

This is how you respect the nursing profession.

What kind of nurse do you want to be?
What kind of person do you want to be?
