As our high school spring track and field season came to an end. We really noticed how we had to focus on recovery as we dwindled down the last few weeks into our state championship meet. Ending with an excellent season, placing 6th in both the 4x100m relay and open 200m. What did we focus the last two weeks on? RECOVERY. We have taught our athletes the importance of listening to their bodies and not running it into the ground knowing they need to peak at specific times. According to U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, only 25% of kids are active for 60 minutes per day. We found this statistic to be outrageous, so of course we had to chat about it. Lack of motor skills have been noticeable in today's youth, such as hopping, skipping, jumping, running or the other side of the spectrum sport specificity. As for the parents out there, the cycle must be broken! We give you some ideas as to how to get your kids and yourself outside and playing. It starts with you guys, if not the cycle will continue and inactivity is the magic pill for inflammatory disease, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, the list goes on. Our philosophy is simple, what are the clients needs versus their wants and how do we develop an individual comprehensive training program. We base this off of filling their training buckets, (listen to Brendon Rearick, a co-owner and educator with CFSC who breaks down this concept). This is such an important topic to touch on because we see so many things in the health and fitness industry that are meant to look cool and offer zero benefits to anyone.
