Many of us have been turning towards media or social media to get our information during this time of social isolation. Because a pandemic of this kind is unprecedented and many of us mamas have never experienced anything close to this, it is easy to feel fearful and uncertain. Today's guest Dr. Melissa Drake is a breath of fresh air and is going to shed light on what is really going on in hospitals, from a first hand perspective.

Melissa is an OB/GYN who has a personal practice in Santa Barbara California and is passionate about the wellness and empowerment of her mama patients. Today we chat about:

  • Being a doctor during a pandemic
  • How she cannot go in and out of the hospital like she used to
  • How this pandemic has affected her personal life and her own health and wellness
  • Why she can't get sick or it affects everyone in her practice
  • How some mothers are scared to give birth in hospitals right now
  • The importance of mothers not having to birth alone
  • Why women should educate themselves about birth
  • Birth trauma and how it affects us all differently.
  • How being a stepparent has influenced her practice
  • What attributes to her empathy and tightly touted bedside manner as a doctor.
  • Why she believes social distancing works and how we've successfully lowered the curve in California (as of April 2020)
  • Empowering oneself and speaking up about your needs as a mother

Mamas! How are you doing during this time of social isolation? Come follow me @soulmammaspodcast where I go live on subjects pertinent to what's going on in the world now, and tools and tips for mama self care during this time.
