We’ve had a couple of weeks of heat here. Now, I’ve lived where it gets really hot for a very long time, so I see this for what it is. But most folks here don’t have AC, or have a single window unit for an entire home, and a week of 95 or higher every day is hot. It’s especially an issue when you’re out working in it, like Lori and I have been. It takes its toll. We each had a day when we were out too long and felt pretty bad at bedtime. Aside from that, the duration of it is getting to us, both mentally and physically.

A couple in a hot house without AC.

Many things are this way. A short blast is no fun, but you can deal with it just fine. But a long time of it wears you down.

This happens with things in our marriage. A few days of being too busy to connect is no fun, but it’s not a big deal. A week of that is bad, and a month does real harm to your marriage. The same thing is true with both sexual and non-sexual intimacy. You miss it pretty quickly, but a temporary lack won’t have horrible long term effects on you or your marriage. However, a prolonged lack of intimacy is bad for you and your marriage.

Have you ever considered how long is too long to go without various things in your marriage? Figuring that out is the first step to keeping it from happening.

~ Paul – I’m XY, and we drink a lot of fluids!
