Trial Lawyer turned peacemaker, Doug Noll, has since 2009 been working with prisoners, some serving life sentences, who want to learn how to stop the prison–violence.

Doug coaches them on how to become mediators and de-escalate conflicts which have had life-changing repercussions and I got him on to share some of his wisdom and methods with us.

We cover:

- How he got into this line of work.

- The softer you are, the stronger you are. The more vulnerable you are, the more powerful you are.

- What made him walk away from $10 million to pursue peacemaking.

- How to listen.

- How to ignore the words to make an emotionally safe environment.

- Real life example on how to put this into practice (I’m your guinea pig with an example from my dayjob).

- What a world without violent conflicts means.

- Emotional invalidation and how it plays into the unhappiness of couples.

- Debunking the worst tips on how to calm someone down.

- Affect vs emotions (a difference between animals and humans).

- How triggers can be used for self-awareness and how to rewire your brain to clear those triggers.

- How to self-regulate your emotions.

- What working with prisoners has taught him about life and people.

- How listening to others into existence can change your life and theirs.

- We round up with Doug sharing the most powerful story from his work with prisoners.
