Everyone knows Ozempic. Everyone wants Ozempic.

There’s a sea of misinformation out there because medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro have become so popular. But the real question is why? These aren’t necessarily brand-new medications but lately, we’ve seen them “prescribed” right and left and it leaves us wondering if it’s something we should consider.

What are these medications for? Who should use them? Who shouldn’t use them? What are the side effects? Are we using them correctly? Is there a better way to navigate these medications? What’s the impact on other aspects of people’s lives? What are the consequences in the larger society?

In this episode, I’m joined by Laura Cipullo, a seasoned registered dietitian, diabetes care and education specialist, and all-around wellness guru (the real wellness, like overall wellness not just weight = wellness thing.). Together, we're unpacking the science behind GLP-1s, demystifying their role in regulating blood sugar, promoting weight loss, and even delaying stomach emptying.

Tweetable Quotes

"Everyone's body is so different. Everyone's metabolism is different. Everyone's microbiome is different." - Laura Cipullo

"I shouldn't judge you, shouldn't judge the eating disorder community, shouldn't be judging the people that are in whatever body right? We need to talk to them and see what is it that you're experiencing." - Laura Cipullo

"I don't think we have enough science for us to even really know like half of what's going on inside somebody." - Laura Cipullo

"We live in a world, especially within the eating disorder treatment community, that if you say the word obesity, you are already deemed as something bad, which is kind of a little silly because if there's a word out there, we can't ban it." - Rachelle Heinemann
